| The seminar
presents a personal environment for parents, students
and college administrators to connect face to face.
The College Preparation Seminar brings together
experts who can provide information on virtually
any aspect of college life. It is designed to
give students all they need to know to prepare
for the college experience.
It has three basic goals:
- To educate students, parents and their supporters
about the process, the opportunities, and the
realities of preparing for the college experience.
- To motivate young men and women to begin
to set personal goals and look toward their
future education and career opportunities.
- To recognize selected students with scholarship
awards for their accomplishments.
At the seminar, a panel of experts is on hand
to answer questions from the audience about key
issues facing students and their families:
- Finding academic and athletic scholarships
- Using the Internet to locate financial aid
resources
- The recruiting process and how to prepare
for it
- The role of community colleges
- State vs. private schools
- Application deadlines
- Admission tips
- Finding housing
They also discuss how to manage life on campus:
- Taking advantage of the resources of the campus
environment
- Prioritizing time while balancing academics,
sports and employment
- Selecting or changing a major
